This 21 page booklet contains 8 beginner lessons in drawing and watercolor. It covers such topics as; Learn to draw in 5 minutes (a day), drawing with a brush and painting alla prima. There is even a gallery section and a glossary!  I often use lessons from this book when teaching and it has been popular with my students. A great start for anyone interested in drawing or painting.

Here are a few of my thoughts about art and teaching:

Art is one of the great pleasures of  life. The best way to enjoy it is to make it yourself. In my classes and workshops  I  strive to impart an attitude of  thoughtful process and good technique.

Students come to me for a variety of reasons. Some wish to be able to sketch ideas for clients, some want to make pictures of their travels, still others wish to learn to draw or paint for its own sake and to experience creativity. The way I teach can address all of these topics and more because of the classic time tested content and sequence of the lessons.

Creativity is a part of art  that we all admire. As we go through the lessons I  explain how artists use creative variations on rules to dramatize the theme of their picture. I encourage students to learn the rules yet be free to bring their own ideas to life as well..

My approach to painting is to capture the scene as  economically as possible. As Leonardo has stated " Any stroke that does not add to a picture, detracts from it".  My intention is to integrate every mark and make it as descriptive as possible.
